1 Day Glass Bead Making Courses

at Flux'n'Flame with Liz Guilmant-Cush

Learn the ancient art and absorbing skill of glass bead making as made famous by the Italians on the island of Murano. Glass beads can be used for all sorts of jewellery, textiles and crafts.

Liz, from Dorset, is an experienced glass bead maker and tutor. Her work is featured in several local galleries and has taught beadmaking for nearly 2 years.

During this course aimed at beginners you will learn to form a round bead, basic shaping and decoration techniques.

Glass beads are made by melting thin glass rods in a torch flame and winding the melted glass around a steel rod.

You will have sole use of a hothead torch and a selection of tools to make your first collection of beads.

2 Day Glass Bead Making

During this weekend fun course aimed at beginners and those wishing to progress a bit more, we will review basic bead making techniques and then introduce new shaping and decorating techniques, including stringers, making canes, encasing, application of other materials for you to practice.

Glass beads are made by melting thin glass rods in a torch flame and winding the melted glass around a steel rod. Decorations are added through application of more glass in a variety of forms and other materials.

You will have sole use of a hothead torch and a selection of tools to make your first collection of beads.

1 Day Beginners Enameling Course

Use copper and or silver with powdered enamels to experiment with simple techniques from champleve to plique-a-jour. you can either make a special piece, have fun experimenting with samples or come with a piece ready prepared to enamel. Just have FUN.

1 Day Colouring Anodized Aluminium

A really fun day experimenting with colouring anodized aluminium.

Using a special pallette of inks and dyes create fabulous texture, colour and pattern on your metal. Seal it in and then make some stunning jewellery! You will learn how to cut, shape, rivet and attach other metals / materials to your piece.

Thinking Outside The Box ®

In a nut shell (and you can use them too) it’s a couple of days experimenting and learning ways to fabricate stunning objects from almost anything you wish.

From the initial idea in your head or the sketches on paper, through the construction materials to the assembly methods and finally onto the maquette OR a full size work of art!!! BIG or SMALL what ever it is!

We have the equipment to MIG Weld, Spot Weld and Solder, as well as the 101 other ways to join stuff together without heat!!!

All you need to do is have the Idea and to TOTB.

Once you have booked your place on the course we will to liaise with you to get an idea for the project and the materials you would like to work with, (just in case you decide to work with Unobtainium and we don't have any!!!).

We can help you source the materials if you need something special or at least point you in the right direction.
