Flux n flame Jewellery Workshop is situated in the heart of Dorset close to the historic thatched village of Milton Abbas. Just 20 miles from the World Heritage Jurassic Coast we are surrounded by peaceful countryside, historic sites, lots of outdoor activities and of course pubs!!
Founded
in 2003, by designer jewellers Jesa & Al Marshall, flux ‘n’
flame has grown through reputation to become one on the largest independent
jewellery schools in the UK, whilst still maintaining a friendly, relaxed
and fun environment in which to discover new skills and experiment with
new techniques.
Our core team of tutors, Jesa Marshall, Al Marshall, Fran Barker and Sally
Plummer are all qualified professional jewellery designers who exhibit
and sell their work throughout the UK and abroad. Between them there is
over 60 years of experience of jewellery design and manufacture, metal
working and the jewellery trade.
We are all hugely passionate about our craft and passionate about passing
it on!
Flux n flame is a purpose built, professional jewellery workshop and is
fully equipped with tools (although you are welcome to bring your own!)
Although the workshop is spacious we take no more than 8 students per
course to allow for a more intimate, friendly atmosphere and a superb
student / teacher ratio. (on the weekend courses there will always be
two tutors!!)
At Flux 'n' Flame we run courses from 1 day tasters to 3 day weekends
as well as a 6 day summer school and regular weekly classes throughout
the year. We cater for all abilities from absolute beginners to those
with more experience.
Our courses are as flexible as possible in their approach - we don't tell you what you have to make but instead you are guided in whatever you choose to do and receive individual tuition at a pace suited to you. So everyone works on their own projects at their own pace, which has the extra benefit of creating a fabulously diverse range of techniques within one course!
In
addition to general precious jewellery making techniques covering skills
such as piercing, soldering, forming, reticulation and forging, you can
experiment with casting techniques, acid etching, stone setting , chain
making…the list is endless!!
We have a good stock of silver, gold, copper and semi-precious stones
which can be purchased throughout the course.
As well as the moral and technical support we offer a bit of home comfort
in the form of endless cups of tea, coffee and biscuits, and on weekend
jewellery workshops a snack lunch is included in the price.
